If the principle of equality
Had greater fecundity,
I'd consider my position dogmatic;
But it's taken for granted
That Marxists recanted
And our society's unproblematic.
Soft-liner:
Is the system reasonable
If we choose untenable
Solutions that damage our interests?
For ghetto immiseration
Fills the police station
And Third World pollution's unaddressed.
Hard-liner:
If people were rational
They'd be socialist or criminal
In a grossly unequal society;
But they prefer normality,
Not guided by rationality
But a stronger leaning to conformity.
Soft-liner:
Habit and consensus
Won't lower the fences,
