7.
Truth has an outside and an inside.
As for outside,
Till first I met the object of my desire, I did not know
My feelings; until objects, people, places, events
And memories were cherished, I did not know myself.
Content-less desire mislays the key.
As for inside,
I think how space, time and the laws of cause and effect
Are not out there, but in here, contributions of my mind,
Staging without which no play can even be thought of.
It is because the stage exists in a mind theatrically dedicated
To discovering all the interplay needed to grasp reality
That I always expect an answer to How? And Why?
But, suddenly, intellect joins imagination, heart and body
To recall infant experiences of comfort, and hurt and crawling,
Of being too weak or strong to lift, and of growing up,
And welcomes, with a cry, ‘matter’, ‘motion’ ‘force’, ‘energy’,
Basics that I only grasp by analogy from my inner experience
On the lower plane. On the ship’s bridge and in the hold, then,
Is vital machinery, without which no knowledge or experience
Would be possible. We are all physicists, because we are all
Corporeal, mobile, curious, subject to needs and to ageing.
But computers, that never crawled, could never grasp physics.
Desire-less content does not even know what day it is!
